MAINTAIN EMPLOYER-PROVIDED HEALTH INSURANCE FOR ADJUNCTS.
Adjuncts teach half the courses at CUNY; the University depends on their labor. For ten years, CUNY resisted the union’s demands for a permanent source of adjunct health insurance. As CUNY expanded its reliance on adjuncts, it covered less and less of the total cost of their insurance. Now CUNY covers only 20 percent. Hundreds of adjuncts, including those who have taught at CUNY longest, stand to lose their health insurance unless the University resolves the problem this year.
Please send this letter to CUNY Chancellor Goldstein and Board of Trustees Chairman Benno Schmidt. Tell them, CUNY depends on adjunct labor--CUNY has a responsibility to provide health insurance.
