The stakes of this election for public employees and the communities they serve couldn't be clearer. There are very stark contrasts between President Obama and Mitt Romney.

President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act protecting critical public services and stabilizing communities. The ARRA saved or created approximately 300,000 education and public service jobs.

Conversely, Mitt Romney wants to cut funding for police officers, firefighters and teachers.

“He [Obama] says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It’s time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.” —Mitt Romney, campaign event, June 8, 2012
