Signed into law in 2010 -- and upheld by the Supreme Court in a June 28 decision -- the Affordable Care Act improves access to health insurance coverage for millions of Americans and protects patients against the predatory insurance industry.

With working families’ incomes stretched to their limits, skyrocketing healthcare costs, limited access to healthcare, and insurance company decisions unfettered by any guiding principle of patient rights, President Obama and Congress passed the Affordable Care Act. It was a watermark moment in the pursuit of the American dream.

The Affordable Care Act attempts to address major issues of access to and affordability of healthcare across America while maintaining flexibility in the marketplace.
