The city of Philadelphia is in a state of crisis, and the children and community need immediate intervention to save their public schools and their future. Due to draconian budget cuts, the public schools of Philadelphia are being starved to the point where they can no longer function for the city's children. The closing of public schools in any city is a slippery slope, as we have seen across the country—from Chicago to Philadelphia. We must take back public education.
Philadelphia’s public schools can still be saved. The governor’s rescue plan must provide adequate funds for Philadelphia schools without the political strings attached.
Stand with us and tell Gov. Corbett, the Pennsylvania Legislature, and even the U.S. Department of Education that immediate action is needed to save Philadelphia public schools.
Add your name to this letter that AFT President Randi Weingarten and Diane Ravitch sent to Secretary of Education Arne Duncan calling for immediate action.
