Congress Votes This Week—Time To Act

To help states and localities weather the current economic storm, Congress needs to step up to the plate and offer federal assistance for states and localities by providing funds to school districts to prevent the layoff of as many as 300,000 educators. The nearly $15 billion in funding included in the emergency supplemental will save many of these jobs and help maintain college affordability for many students. We need your help.

Contact your representative today. Urge him or her to support the $10 billion to save education jobs and the approximately $5 billion for Pell Grants included in the emergency supplemental appropriations bill to be voted on this week by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Your representative needs to hear from you about the importance of providing funds to save education jobs, maintain high-quality programs for our students and keep college affordable.

Now is the time to contact your representative in support of $15 billion in emergency funding for education. Stand with thousands of educators nationwide who are on the verge of losing their jobs, and with students who worry that they won’t be able to afford to go to college.

In unity,
The AFT
