Urgent Appeal to President Obama
Urgent Appeal to President Obama: Use your leadership to protect education for all children in the world.
The AFT calls on President Obama to use his leadership at global summits to persuade other presidents and prime ministers that education must not be seen as an expensive drain on their economies but as a high-return investment – the heart and soul of economic recovery. AFT president Randi Weingarten and NEA president Dennis Van Roekel sent a letter to President Obama that calls on him to rebuild the world economy by increasing the funding for education not cutting it. (Click here to view the letter.) Join your leaders and let the president know that the children and teachers of the world are looking to him to secure quality education for all. Remember the children of the world are the future. Their education is a right not a privilege. Do not leave them behind. Let us not look back on this global economic crisis as the reason that we lost a generation to despair. Use your leadership to persuade other world leaders that it is time to deliver on the promise of education for all by 2015. Only with U.S. leadership can we ensure that all 72 million children currently out of school gain access to quality basic education.
Sincerely,
